Open Question: 80′s themed 16th birthday, any ideas? So since I missed the 80s by about 5 years, I thought it would be super fun to do an 80s theme for my 16th birthday. My party will be on february 19th. (Which is my actual birthday) I’m inviting about 6 people in additon to my family which is huge like 20 people! My older brother has a large basement with a pool table and a bar. He said I could use it for my party. I have some ideas as to what im gonna do. For decorations I wanted to get some posters of some 80′s musical icons like Michael Jackson, Madonna etc.. Also an 80s party sign I will probably make myself lol I want the attire to be full blown 80′s I’m thinking of doing a sideways ponytail and not sure what for clothes. Mine is Vic Chesnutt, he is commonly dismissed and under-appreciated. Now I’m going to try to sell you some Chesnutt so you’ll stop roasting him on open fires.
He has an ardent, but not vast, following. He was a critical favorite, and practically revered by many of his fellow musicians. His songs have been covered by Smashing Pumpkins, Kristen Hersh, Madonna, Sparklehorse, and many others. He has collaborated with members of Fugazi, R.E.M., Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Elf Power, and Bill Frisell.
His music definitely isn’t for everybody though, his dylanesque voice is an acquired taste and he sounds like a mix between Dylan, Willie Nelson, R.E.M., and Elliot Smith. I didn’t like his music at first, but years later when I listened again I loved it. I think he needs a few songs before he can be appreciated. In a wheelchair since a paralyzing car accident at age 18 and physically…
